Wool & Cashmere

Fine wool and cashmere require gentle handling. Both fibres are naturally self-cleaning to a degree — air your knitwear after wearing it and reserve washing for when it is genuinely necessary.

Washing

Hand-wash in cool water (below 30°C) with a specialist wool detergent — we recommend Woolite or a similar pH-neutral formula. Never wring or twist the garment; instead, gently press water through the fibres, then press (do not squeeze) out excess water by folding the piece inside a clean towel. For heavily embellished or structured pieces, dry-clean only is recommended.

Drying

Lay the garment flat on a dry towel in its natural shape and allow it to dry away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Never hang knitwear to dry — the weight of wet fibres will distort the shoulders.

Storage

Store knitwear folded, never on a hanger. Place a cedar block or lavender sachet in the drawer or storage box to deter moths; refresh these every six months. Store cashmere pieces in a breathable cotton bag during summer months.

Pilling

Some pilling is a natural characteristic of wool and cashmere — it is not a sign of poor quality, but of friction. Use a fabric de-pilling comb or battery-powered de-fuzzer to gently remove pills as they form. Always de-pill on a flat surface; never pull pills off by hand.

Cotton & Linen

Cotton and linen are robust, breathable fibres that handle machine washing well — provided you observe a few basic rules.

Washing

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle. Turn garments inside out to protect surface finishes and decorative stitching. Use a mild, colour-safe detergent; avoid biological powders for darker shades. Do not wash linen at high temperatures — it will shrink.

Drying & ironing

Tumble dry on low heat, or hang to air dry — cotton and linen both dry quickly at room temperature. Iron cotton on a medium–high setting while still slightly damp for a crisp finish. Linen looks best ironed with a light mist of water; it will wrinkle again with wear, which is entirely natural and part of the character of the cloth.

Leather & Suede

Leather and suede are living materials that improve with age when properly maintained. Never machine wash or dry-clean leather or suede pieces at home — always take them to a specialist leather cleaner for deep cleaning.

Conditioning (leather)

Apply a quality leather conditioner two to three times per year, or whenever the leather begins to feel dry. Work the conditioner into the surface with a clean, lint-free cloth using small circular motions, then buff gently. This keeps the leather supple and resistant to cracking.

Protection

Before first wear, treat leather and suede pieces with an appropriate waterproofing spray. Reapply at the start of each wet season. Avoid prolonged exposure to heavy rain; if a leather piece becomes soaked, allow it to dry naturally at room temperature away from radiators.

Brushing (suede)

Use a soft suede brush to restore the nap after wearing. Brush in one direction to lift flattened fibres. For stubborn marks, use a suede eraser before the brush. If the suede gets wet, allow it to dry completely before brushing.

Storage

Store leather and suede on padded hangers, in a breathable garment bag — never in plastic, which prevents the material from breathing and can cause mildew. Stuff structured pieces with acid-free tissue to help them retain their shape.

General tips

• —Always check the care label sewn into the garment before washing. Our labels follow international care symbols and will specify the maximum temperature and any restrictions.
• —Treat stains promptly — the longer a stain sits, the harder it becomes to remove. Blot (do not rub) with a clean damp cloth, working from the outside of the stain inward.
• —Rotate your wardrobe. Allowing garments to rest between wears — at least a day for tailoring, a few hours for knitwear — extends their life considerably.
• —Invest in quality wooden or velvet hangers. Wire hangers distort shoulders over time; padded hangers help structured pieces maintain their form.
• —If a piece requires repair — a loose button, a pulled seam — address it early. A small repair done promptly prevents a larger one later, and any reputable tailor will be glad to help.
